‘Heartbroken’ parents of Louisville bank shooter speak out: ‘Wish we could undo it’ I look forward to once again traveling across the state and meeting the wonderful people of Kentucky as I listen to their concerns and share my goals for our great Commonwealth.‘Path to recovery’: Hero cop who helped stop Louisville shooter is taken off ventilator during recovery So that you can better understand what motivates me, I share my mission statement that I adopted after my first successful election to public office and one I have tried to live by: I want my children, grandchildren, and every adult and child in Kentucky to know this state holds great opportunities for each and every one. I’m a Christian, a husband, a father, and a grandfather. I love serving as your State Auditor, and I will continue working toward those same goals if elected to the Governor’s office. That’s what I’ve done as a State Representative, where I was known as one of the most conservative members in the House, and as your Auditor of Public Accounts, where I go to work every day with the goals of protecting taxpayers and making government more efficient, effective, and ethical. ![]() But I will make this promise that if I am elected, I will do my best to take time to listen to the people of Kentucky and to serve each and every one to the best of my abilities regardless of their political affiliation. I learned a long time ago to make few promises because someone’s word should be their bond, and that bond, if at all possible, should be honored and unbroken. Over the last year and a half, sadly Kentuckians have had their liberties and their livelihoods suspended and stolen while promises to make those losses whole have gone for the most part unfulfilled. My launch is not filled with fireworks and fanfare, but merely my strong determination to help renew Kentucky and hopefully help this state become the best version of itself it can be. Today I filed paperwork to begin my path to seek the Republican Party’s nomination for the 2023 Kentucky Governor’s race. My wife is the women’s chaplain at the Isaiah House women’s ministry and sees the concerns and the successes when it comes to breaking a vicious cycle. Our family has personally seen the progress that can be made with faith based programs. ![]() A focus on increasing faith based treatments and providing additional resources for those addicted to drugs will be immediate actions that I take as Governor. While we need to harshly punish distributors, we need to extend a hand to those that are trapped in addiction. In addition, we need to recommit ourselves to prosecuting drug dealers and distributers to the fullest extent possible, and this includes putting violation of drug distribution laws on par with current murder charges. A full audit and review of current state law needs to be conducted to ensure that we have the tools to effectively tackle the serious, the murderous nature that fentanyl laced drugs represent. Disrupt the distribution lines for drugs. The most effective way to make progress on this front is to elect a new president in 2024 that cares about the rule of law and the health and safety of Americans. We must continue to strongly and publicly compel the President to enforce federal law and control our borders. Our federal government has failed to stop the flow of illegal immigrants and illegal drugs into our country. Kentucky needs a 3 prong attack when it comes to addressing the drug and fentanyl laced drug problem in this state and this nation. A staggering 67 percent of those deaths involved synthetic opioids like fentanyl. According to the CDC, 107,375 people in the United States died of drug overdoses and drug poisonings in the 12-month period ending in January 2022. With the southern border wide open, Kentuckians are dying each and every day due to the exploding Fentanyl epidemic in our country. ![]() Mike Harmon, Kentucky Auditor of Public Accounts, shares a story of seeking the Lord, facing challenges, and serving in the places where God opens the doors. “I HAVE NO DESIRE TO LEAVE A LEGACY, EXCEPT, THAT I SERVED MY LORD, I SERVED MY FAMILY, AND I SERVED MY COUNTRY, WELL.” I may not be a polished politician, but if you want some who loves the Lord, loves his family, and who loves this country, and in that order, I hope you will think of me. It has been a continual journey since that day, and I continue to seek His guidance and His will in my life both personally and politically. At that Children’s Church in Ashland, I accepted Jesus as my Savior, confessed my sins and asked for forgiveness. I do not recall a time I did not talk to God, but I made a public profession of faith while I was visiting my aunt and uncle’s church in Ashland, KY. I’m just a sinner saved by God’s Grace trying to get a little better every day.
